Why Password Skills Plus?

Password Skills Plus assesses academic English across all four language Skills and takes three hours and five minutes to complete. All four test modules are delivered online with live human invigilation throughout.

Score Alignment

Password Scores & CEFR / IELTS

Broad CEFR bands are broken into more precise Password scores. Password and IELTS scores correlate with a Pearson coefficient of 0.76 — a strong positive correlation, better than TOEFL vs IELTS (0.73). IELTS does not publish CEFR alignment below B1; Password is accurate down to A1.

Note: IELTS scores are not always precisely aligned with CEFR boundaries (e.g. 6.5 could be B2 or C1). All exam boards recommend institutions set their own score thresholds.

Additionally, Password Skills Plus is included on the Cyprus Ministry of Education’s list of accepted English proficiency tests. As a result, any organisation supporting students with English language requirements for study in Cyprus should be able to verify this via official channels ( https://www.highereducation.ac.cy/index.php/en/spoudes-cyprus/gnosi-anglikis-glossa ), as well as on a number of Cypriot university admissions pages, i.e., https://www.unic.ac.cy/study-at-unic/admission-requirements

Test Format

What Does the Test Include?

The Password Skills Plus test covers four modules. Results are available on Password’s online validation portal within five working days after a rigorous quality assurance process.

Reading

75 minutes

Five tasks of increasing difficulty. Tasks assess academic English but require no subject-specific knowledge.

Writing

30 minutes

Choose one of two open-ended essay questions. Test takers must write at least 200 words.

Listening

60 minutes

Five sections with one or more tasks per section of increasing difficulty. Most recordings are short lectures or lecture snippets.

Speaking

20 minutes

Five tasks displayed on screen. Responses increase in length and complexity as the module progresses. Responses captured by microphone.

One 5-minute toilet break is permitted, taken between test modules (proctor permission required).

What You Need

Results are delivered within five working days after a rigorous quality assurance process.

Results, Validity & Retake Policy

Results Timeline

Results certificate delivered within five working days of completing the test.

Validity Period

Results typically valid for two years – institutions may choose their own acceptance period.

Retaking the Test

You may take the Password Skills Plus test up to three times. A second test can be booked immediately after results are received; a third requires waiting one month after the second.

Re-mark a Single Module

One individual module (Reading, Writing, Listening or Speaking) may be retaken once. Email support to arrange and pay the re-mark fee within two weeks of receiving results.
